A graduate of Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, Carlissa’s legal journey began with a fervent commitment to social justice. She honed her skills as a clerk for the Honorable Judge Jerry Stokes of the Shelby County Circuit Court, gaining invaluable insights into the intricacies of the legal system. At Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS), Carlissa passionately advocated for the rights of low-income families, ensuring access to housing and fighting against injustices in landlord-tenant disputes, tax sales, and mortgage issues. Her tireless efforts impacted the lives of over 300 Memphians, embodying her dedication to serving the marginalized. Transitioning to private practice at Horne & Wells PLLC, Carlissa continued her advocacy in the courtroom, litigating cases ranging from medical malpractice to first-degree murder. As the managing attorney of the criminal section, she demonstrated her prowess in navigating complex legal matters while defending her client’s rights.
